In 1985 Robert established, along with Mun Soon, the award-winning practice McGauran Giannini Soon Pty Ltd (MGS Architects). In 2001 Robert was awarded the RAIA Sisalation Research Prize for Take 1 - Propositions for the Future Australian City and has continued this research with RMIT via an ARC Research Grant. In 2004, Robert was invited to join the Victorian Government Priority Development
Panel on which he served until this year and in 2007 the Tasmanian Government Sullivans Cove Design Panel. He is also a board member of Housing Choices Australia. Robert was awarded a Life Fellowship by the RAIA in 1999.
Robert’s recent urban design work has included masterplans for Universities and propositions for new and existing urban environments. His recent award-winning architectural projects have included the Woodstock Rooming House, a new sustainable retail centre for Gisborne and the redevelopment of Delgany House at Portsea.
