Chief Operations Officer

The Organisation:
Aboriginal Housing Victoria is the largest provider of Social Housing to Aboriginal people in Australia. With over 1550 properties in Victoria across all regions and moving towards becoming a totally self funded independent association, AHV require the services of a dedicated professional capable of delivering the full potential of the company and its vision.
Position:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operations Officer is responsible for leading and managing a comprehensive array of services and programmes. The COO will work closely with all division managers in the delivery of services across the State of Victoria. The CEO and AHV Board are looking for an individual who can provide excellence in leadership to a team of 35 dedicated staff and an operational budget in excess of $13 million. The COO will be responsible for all staff employment and development and to develop the full potential of every member of the team. Whilst essential to bring efficient and effective management skills to the position, it is also critical to respond to the specific needs of our clients in a culturally sensitive manner.
The COO will be the link between clients, employees and government agencies as AHV develops its business plans and objectives, and will also be a part of the succession planning for the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
The COO will be accountable for all internal operations and work closely with the CEO to deliver all components of the 5 year AHV business plan. You will lead the performance management process that measures progress against the overall goals of the organisation.
You will be integral in providing day to day leadership for all staff, both at head office and at 8 regional offices. In this newly created and strategic role you will work collaboratively with all areas of the organisation to develop procedures and processes that continually strive to improve the delivery of affordable housing and develop systems to ensure all stakeholders are fully informed and involved in the process.
As a key player in the executive leadership team you must be committed to developing a culture of excellence in service delivery and an environment of staff development, training and improvement to human resource and OH&S systems.
What attributes and experience are we ideally looking for?
• Demonstrated management experience at an executive level in a complex, customer focused organisation
• Highly developed team leadership, management and service delivery skills
• Strong communicator and relationship builder with proven ability to develop programmes of excellence and the ability to engage with external stakeholder and multiple community partners
• Proven experience in developing outsourced consultancies and managing performance and delivery of projects
• Marketing and public relations experience would be seen as a positive attribute.

1) Asset Manager/Property Developer - NSW:
Candidate AB13844 has over 20 years of relevant experience and extensive qualifications in the industry, including Project Management, OH&S, NSW Scoping Passport, the Building Code of Australia and an Unrestricted Building License.
The candidate has been working in a rapidly expanding NSW Community Housing Provider with heavy involvement in the Crisis Management Program and lending significant support and expertise to the Asset Maintenance Team.
2) Senior Asset Manager/Operational Manager Property – NSW
Candidate AB3220 is a highly regarded and educated professional with extensive experience in the Community Housing Sector; including a senior role with one of NSW’s largest providers. The candidate has qualifications in business law and economics, procurement, project management and a strong background coordinating maintenance related issues at all levels, in addition to operational management of all property and building services.
3) Senior Property Development Manager – UK
Candidate AB18545 has worked at Director Level in two nationally recognised UK Housing organisations; introducing complex changes and operating at executive level to realise company objectives and goals.
In April 2004 he became Director of Asset Management within a large Community Housing Provider with stock comprising of around 12,000 properties. He went on to develop a service improvement plan and took a leading role in achieving a 2 Star rating from the Audit Commission. As Director of Asset Management responsibilities included managing the responsive repairs service (£9 million) and a Decent Homes Programme in excess of £30million in 2005.
