Victoria’s Community Housing Sector
The community housing sector is growing rapidly, currently employing around 1000 staff, managing nearly 14,000 tenancies, and having an asset portfolio of nearly 5,000 properties worth over $1.2 billion.
Through recent Federal and State Government funding via the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) and the Nation Building Economic Stimulus Package (Social Housing Initiative), CHFV estimates that by December 2011 its members will manage over 17,000 tenancies and almost 8,000 dwellings directly owned by community housing organisations, representing around $2 billion in assets.
